The Aranui offers comfortable, air-conditioned cabins, creating an intimate environment for her guests. Passengers will be able to sunbathe on deck, swim in the pool, or enjoy exotic tropical drinks while the Aranui cruises among the Marquesas islands.Polynesian sailors work aboard the Aranui year-round as this freighter steams across the South Pacific, delivering cargo to some of the most remote islands on earth. The Aranui is the lifeline that links the distant Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia, 750 miles northeast of Tahiti, with the rest of the world. Their primitive beauty and erstwhile cannibalism have attracted writers, artists, and adventurers since the time of Captain Cook.Aranui's voyages cover all six inhabited Marquesas Islands, plus Takapoto and Rangiroa in the Tuamotus, the world's largest atoll. Travellers go along for the ride to watch the tattooed crew sling sacks of copraby day and strum ukuleles by night. They go to put tropical flowers behind their ears and learn the Tahitian three-step in the Aranui's bar. To see the lush landscape and wild stone spires of the islands. To explore ancient ruins, discover overgrown tikis, visit the grave of Paul Gauguin, and roam the valleys that inspired tales Robert Luis Stevenson.

The Loyalty Islands... Lifou, Mare and Ouvea, lands of legend and tradition, mystical islands of unique beauty...

Endowed with fabulous natural wealth, the most sumptuous landscapes that New Caledonia has to offer lie hidden within these islands : long deserted beaches of pristine white sand, enchanting crystal-clear turquoise lagoons, sheer cliffs majestically crowned with colonial pine trees, legendary rocks rising like medieval fortresses, fish and coral fauna found nowhere else in the world, multicoloured sea-life unsullied by man... And finally, the people.

The Loyalty islanders have managed to preserve the most powerful traditions of the Territory of New Caledonia, an imaginary environment wrought with myths and legends. When you visit the Loyalty Islands, you will get to know a people and their beliefs, you will discover Kanak life in all its authenticity, and you will enjoy the natural hospitality of the island people who will receive you like a favoured guest.

60 km southeast of Noumea lies an enchanting island, the "most beautiful island in the world" for some people, the "closest island to Paradise" for Japanese people: the Isle of Pines. This island is as beautiful under water as it is on land: a favourite spot for divers with its turquoise lagoon sheltering turtles, crayfish, myriads of tropical fish... a place where time seems to stand still in an idyllic setting of white beaches under swaying palms and soaring Araucaria pines...

Including Tahiti, Pitcairn Island, Tonga, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, and Vanuatu.

Due to the nature of the voyages we are able to offer alternative types of holidays:

The longer sea passages are aimed at the adventurous guests who wish to experience blue water sailing on a square rigger. The ship will be sailing continuously until she arrives at the next chain of Pacific islands, hence the Voyagers will be able to experience a number of night sailings. You will however, spend time exploring the islands you visit en route. It is advisable that guests joining this type of voyage are prepared to participate in most aspects of sailing the vessel including the night watches.Cruises, once the vessel is in amongst a chain of islands are designed to be more leisurely, with the emphasis on exploring the various islands, snorkelling, lazing on beaches as well as the sailing. Often the ship anchors overnight in a harbour or lagoon.

We change lives. We have been changing lives for over thirty years, taking more than 45,000 people on their very own adventure across the high seas. It’s no secret that sailing with us will change perceptions both of your own ability and of those around you, regardless of physical ability.

Since its inception in 1978 the Jubilee Sailing Trust has strived to enable people of all physical abilities to sail. In the early 1990’s it was becoming clear that the mission was becoming increasingly popular. The Jubilee Sailing Trust’s ship Lord Nelson, commissioned and specifically designed for the trust, was unable to continue to supply the growing demand. With this in mind Lindsey Neve, then director of the JST made it her aim to fundraise for the build of a new ship. A new committee was set up comprising six members of whom five were volunteers.

Tenacious at sea In July 1995, the National Lottery awarded the trust 65% of the estimated cost of such a large project. Initial funding secured, the project got fully underway. After extensive research and negotiations, the new ship committee chose Merlin Quay, a site that included an old office block. The site was renamed Jubilee Yard. Now funding was in place, Tony Castro’s design JST/02 which took over 2½ years to fully complete (and at one point involved 25 people working from four offices to complete all the drawings), could get underway. On the 6th of June 1996 HRH The Duke of York hammered golden rivets into Siberian Larchwood during the “keel laying ceremony” and work could officially begin.

Tenacious bellThe timber frames used to construct the hull were first cut in Aug 1996, whilst work began on the old office block the JST acquired. The building was to be transformed into accommodation for volunteers who would stay for “Shorewatch” holidays and offices for the JST. During their stay volunteers of all physical abilities enjoyed helping the shipwrights in the construction of the ship. Constructed upside down, the wooden hull was finally turned the right way up on the 23rd October 1998 in an extravagant ceremony with The Duke of York. The turning process involved fitting large circular turning clamps to the hull and took just over one hour. With the hull the correct way up, fitting out the interior of the vessel could begin. Prefabricated sections were put in place, including the fixed bunks designed to be wider on the bottom bunk to enable wheelchair users easier access. On Thursday the 3rd of February 2000 Tenacious was ready to leave the yard, and to a great many people it was an emotional day.

Crowds gathered to get a glimpse of Tenacious as she saw daylight for the first time. Transporters drove the ship towards the barge which was to send Tenacious into her natural element. The following day tug boats took Tenacious to Vosper Thornycroft to have the masts and yards fitted. On the 6th of April 2000 Tenacious was officially named in a ceremony attended by HRH The Duke of York. Tenacious sailed on her maiden voyage 1,548 days after her keel was laid, on 1st September 2000 from Southampton to Southampton calling at Sark, St Helier and Weymouth. She has been delivering freedom, fun and adventure for everyone ever since.

The JST voyage experience encourages self-discovery and cultivates active participation. The supportive and well-designed environment quickly breaks-down prejudice, promotes equality and mutual understanding.  It is where people find new strengths and learn to see strengths in others without being diverted by a perceived weakness

About Jubilee Sailing Trust

Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is a globally unique, UN-accredited charity which utilises the adventure of tall ship sailing to unlock human potential and break down barriers between people of different circumstances - especially between people living with disability and the able-bodied. As of December 2015 we have now established Jubilee Sailing Trust Australia and Jubilee Sailing Trust NZ as charitable organisations to deliver the work of JST on a global basis. Tenacious, the world’s largest operating timber hulled vessel has voyaged over 18,000 nautical miles from Southampton UK to deliver a programme of voyages, day sails, charitable partnership work and corporate days over the next 12-18months around South East Australia and New Zealand as the start of an ongoing relationship with this part of the world. Tenacious was built 16 years ago by JST in Southampton by 1,500 volunteers approximately half of whom were living with some form of disability. She includes features not seen on other vessels such as six wheelchair lifts between the decks, deck ribs and a speaking compass for the vision impaired, vibrating alarm pads under the bunks for the hearing impaired, you can helm her with the traditional wheel or if limited mobility use a joystick, we can even lift a wheelchair user into the platforms up the mast!

There are aids for the visually impaired like a speaking compasses and braille signage; people with limited dexterity can even helm the ship with a joystick – so disabled and able-bodied crew members can work together side-by-side. There are no passengers and no restrictions. In this way, a JST voyage provides a unique environment where disability is not a factor and those with disabilities can operate as equals alongside the able-bodied, where everyone comes together to work as a single team.Over the last 35 years the have provided never-to-forget adventures to almost 45,000 people, including: 5,548 wheelchair users; 1,899 people who are blind; 547 amputees; 1,671 with cerebral palsy; and 1,295 with hearing impairments. In Australia, around 1 in 5 people have some form of disability (over 4 million people). These individuals have significantly lower rates of social participation (53% compared to 83%) and almost double the unemployment rate (9.4% compared to 4.9%).During her stay in Australia, our unique tall ship Tenacious will tour South Eastern Australia, visiting major ports like Sydney, Adelaide and Hobart. Our objective is to ensure that over 1,500 Australians have the opportunity to sail on Tenacious whilst she visits, with around half having some sort of disability. As you will see on our voyage listings, we have a variety of different types of voyages available to book – ranging from Day Sails to 12 day long trips. We also have a number of opportunities for charters and group bookings. To help you navigate the booking process, please see the below table which includes an explanation of the forms, medical information and insurance requirements for each voyage type.

JST Experience and Community Support

The numbers say it all: Over 55,000 people have come sailing with us over the last 38 years, almost 25,000 of those are living with disabilities:
• 5,678 in a wheelchair
• 570 amputees
• 1,965 visually impaired
• 1,368 hearing impaired
• 964 people with diabetes
• 1,050 people with epilepsy
• 1,015 hemiplegics

• 724 paraplegics
• 1,155 people with multiple sclerosis
• 1,330 people with arthritis

WELCOME TO NEW CALEDONIA

In the heart of the South Pacific lies a beautiful island surrounded by an emerald green lagoon. New Caledonia is a land like no other, offering visitors an insight to a paradise of undeniable beauty and ecological treasures, all waiting to be discovered.

Third largest island in the Pacific Region after Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, New Caledonia is located in southern Melanesia, at a latitude of 19° - 23° south and at a longitude of 158° - 172° east. About 1,500 km from Australia, 1,700 km from New Zealand, 5,000 km from Tahiti, 7,000 km from Japan, 10,000 km from the West Coast of the USA and 20,000 km from France.

Nicknamed the Eternal Spring Island or the Island closest to Paradise, New Caledonia is above all remarkable because of its lagoon. With the second largest coral barrier reef in the world after the one on the Australian continent, the Caledonian lagoon contains a varied fauna composed of multicoloured fish, of corals of incredible shapes, a real paradise for deep-sea hunters, film directors, deep-sea divers and anglers or trawlers.

To make it even more engaging, it is colonised with numerous little islands, each possessing its own micro-lagoon, its own beaches, its own varied vegetation and its own anchorage ideal for yachts or motor boats. An ideal lake for holiday makers, this lagoon with its warm, marvellous waters that are as transparent as a diamond, allow the evolution of Sailing boats, hobie cats and above all windsurfers in total security. New Caledonia is the world champion of wind surfing.
In harmony with the Melanesian culture, the French have brought European style and elegance to New Caledonia. The "French ambience" is described by many as a taste of France in the South Pacific. This is the romance of New Caledonia.
