Robert Louis Stevenson’s writings had always had strong and vivid associations with sea. However it was in the latter years of his life that he undertook adventure voyages in schooners and yawls of a similar size to Soren. In 1888 Stevenson set out with his family to explore the South Pacific and recorded his fascination with its islands and peoples in his memoir “In the South Seas”. His accounts tell of his impressions of the Marquesas islands, the Tuamotu atolls, the remoter isles of the Cooks and of course, his final landfall in Samoa. In 2008 we shall follow many of his journeys and observe what has changed and what has remained untouched at his island destinations. Click here for more details.
