WELCOME TO NEW CALEDONIA In the heart of the South Pacific
lies a beautiful island surrounded by an emerald green lagoon. New Third largest island in the Pacific Region after Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, New Caledonia is located in southern Melanesia, at a latitude of 19° - 23° south and at a longitude of 158° - 172° east. About 1,500 km from Australia, 1,700 km from New Zealand, 5,000 km from Tahiti, 7,000 km from Japan, 10,000 km from the West Coast of the USA and 20,000 km from France. Nicknamed the Eternal Spring Island or the Island closest to Paradise, New Caledonia is above all remarkable because of its lagoon. With the second largest coral barrier reef in the world after the one on the Australian continent, the Caledonian lagoon contains a varied fauna composed of multicoloured fish, of corals of incredible shapes, a real paradise for deep-sea hunters, film directors, deep-sea divers and anglers or trawlers. To make it even more engaging, it is colonised with numerous little islands, each possessing its own micro-lagoon, its own beaches, its own varied vegetation and its own anchorage ideal for yachts or motor boats. An ideal lake for holiday makers, this lagoon with its warm, marvellous waters that are as transparent as a diamond, allow the evolution of Sailing boats, hobie cats and above all windsurfers in total security. New Caledonia is the world champion of wind surfing. In harmony with the Melanesian culture, the French have brought European style and elegance to New Caledonia. The "French ambience" is described by many as a taste of France in the South Pacific. This is the romance of New Caledonia. EXCURSIONS TO THE OUTER ISLANDS
Endowed with fabulous natural wealth, the most sumptuous landscapes that New Caledonia has to offer lie hidden within these islands : long deserted beaches of pristine white sand, enchanting crystal-clear turquoise lagoons, sheer cliffs majestically crowned with colonial pine trees, legendary rocks rising like medieval fortresses, fish and coral fauna found nowhere else in the world, multicoloured sea-life unsullied by man... And finally, the people. The Loyalty islanders have managed to preserve the most powerful traditions of the Territory of New Caledonia, an imaginary environment wrought with myths and legends. When you visit the Loyalty Islands, you will get to know a people and their beliefs, you will discover Kanak life in all its authenticity, and you will enjoy the natural hospitality of the island people who will receive you like a favoured guest.
60 km southeast of Noumea lies an enchanting island, the "most beautiful island in the world" for some people, the "closest island to Paradise" for Japanese people: the Isle of Pines. This island is as beautiful under water as it is on land: a favourite spot for divers with its turquoise lagoon sheltering turtles, crayfish, myriads of tropical fish... a place where time seems to stand still in an idyllic setting of white beaches under swaying palms and soaring Araucaria pines...
