CRUISING

Bora Bora Cruises Prepares for 2nd Launching Early 2004

As Bora Bora Cruises prepares for the launching of its second designer cruise yacht, the 74-“guest” Ti’a Moana” early next year, November is expected to be the best month yet for the twin “Tu Moana”, which began boutique lagoon cruises in the Leeward Islands on June 30, 2003.

In only four-and-a-half months, the Tu Moana is eyeing 60% average occupancy for November and is confident of 70% next year, if the “incredibly encouraging” guest satisfactory reports are any indication, said Richard Hall, who is in charge of Bora Bora Cruises (BBC) marketing.

Guest Satisfaction “Exceeded Our Expectations”
More than 80% of the guest satisfactory reports “have exceeded our expectations”, Hall said, referring to the reactions of guests from BBC’s four major markets—U.S.A., France, Italy and Spain. The Italian and Spanish markets are making a transition from the smaller “Haumana”, the 19-cabin vessel that ended five years of Leeward Island cruising on Oct. 31.

With the Tu Moana today and the Ti’a Moana tomorrow, BBC “feels what we have created is another innovation to the tourism world in Tahiti & Her Islands comparable with the over water bungalow, shark-feeding and breakfast delivered on an outrigger canoe,” Hall said.

“There’s nothing else like this in the world,” he said of BBC’s seven-day boutique lagoon cruises out of its base on Bora Bora. What makes these sister “cruise yachts” exceptional are “the private yacht experience”, he said. That means “no public address announcements, no buffets, no room numbers, no casinos, not even a boutique or shops”.

Lots of Luxury, Peace and Quiet
However, the BBC experience does mean 37 spacious, well-appointed guest rooms with designer elements, spacious mini-bars, individually controlled air-conditioning, satellite connection telephones and flat screen LCD televisions with individual DVD players. Guests may admire the every-changing tropical vista through large guest room windows. There’s also top quality European bed linen, an exclusive Keno-design bed throw, stylish guest bathrobes and clever storage space, including an under-bed suitcase locker. The bathrooms feature a Philippe Starck basin and a shower that allows for preset water temperatures. Normal room numbers are replaced by Tahitian names and hand-engraved Tahitian mother-of-pearl key rings match the door plaques.

Pampering by Crew of 37
Space, comfort and quality are keynotes to the overall design of both BBC vessels. Guests are pampered by a permanent crew of 37, one for each guest room. An abundance of guest living areas includes a forward deck and Jacuzzi, library and Internet kiosk, a well equipped fitness suite, an indoor/outdoor gourmet restaurant, an aft salon and bar (also indoor/outdoor) and bridge deck “quiet spaces”. There’s a huge top-level sundeck with Jacuzzi, sun lounges, bar and sunset seating. The rear transom deck offers space for swimming, tender access, excursion pickups and drop-offs and even some after dinner fishing.

The “cruise yacht” interior is a stunning fit-out worthy of today’s most popular chic boutique hotels. An intense eye-for-detail and modern styling features deep exotic wood grain finishes subtly infused with elegant original Polynesian sculptures, artwork and classic black and white photographs. The overall effect is one of intimacy, quality and comfort.

Lagoon cruises depart every Monday morning for seven days of discovery and relaxation from Bora Bora and return guests to Bora Bora’s airport on Sunday afternoons.

Bora Bora Cruises has created a cruise that offers a tranquil balance of discovery, relaxation and pure enjoyment. There are activities available every day for those interested. There are optional activities available for the more active. And there’s always plenty of on-board and lagoon space for those wishing to just relax.

“Lagoon Breakfast” Served with Glass of Champagne
A “lagoon breakfast” is one of BBC’s more innovative activities. A full selection is served at well-dressed tables in the lagoon, nicely enhanced with a glass of chilled champagne. Another innovation is an evening of “Motu Movies”. This is a barbeque dinner followed by classic movies projected on a screen suspended between two coconut palms. Guests enjoy having their feet in the sand, servings of popcorn and ice cream as they watch a movie under the stars.

For the adventurous there are tender vessels, ample snorkelling equipment and a number of kayaks. A kayak expedition into the only navigable river in French Polynesia is offered on the island of Raiatea. Other experiences offered by BBC’s lagoon cruising include an early morning hike up a small mountain for croissants, coffee and a spectacular view and a coral gardens snorkelling trip to meet the local fish.

No Restaurant Sittings
The onboard cuisine is designed to offer the best of local and international produce presented in an attractive and innovative manner in keeping with the boutique lagoon cruise theme. Aside from special meals served “ashore”, there are no restaurant sittings and no buffets.

Breakfast is available for those who rise early as well as those who sleep late. Lunch is a light affair of salads, sandwiches and special daily dishes. Afternoon tea is served with canapés and other finger foods. The cocktail hour is accompanied by classical savoury snacks.

Dinner is like eating in a specialized restaurant in any of the world’s capitals—six pleasurable courses served with fine wines from all over the world.

BBC’s current promotion involves seven key new elements. They include promoting the cruises as a “new niche” product because “nowhere in the world has boutique lagoon cruising”; exclusive quality in terms of food, service and guest experience recognition; a sexy novelty because “everyone dreams of a private motor yacht”; and calm water cruising, with 95% of each voyage within protected lagoons.
