| 2007 News: Arrival of the
new Mata Fenua catamaran! |
Archipels Croisières Team has recently announced the
renewal of their entire fleet catamaran with the Eleuthera
60', the first new and larger
catamaran will offer a better comfort and the addition
of a fifth cabin.
Built by Fountaine Pajot,
located in La Rochelle France, Archipels Croisières will
offer their passengers a significantly improved service
with those new sailboats. Their first new catamaran
named Mata Fenua (eye of the land in Tahitian
language) left France on January 16th, 2007.
The catamaran is estimated to arrive by the end of March
2007 in Tahiti. Mata Fenua will be based
in Tuamotu for the 3 and 4 days cruises in Rangiroa
atoll and for the weekly
itinerary in the heart of Tuamotu ( Fakarava – Toau –
Rangiroa ). Two more new
catamarans are scheduled to arrive by the end of 2007
and 2008. |

Rangiroa is the largest of a chain of 78
atolls that comprise the Tuamotu, the world's most extensive atoll archipelago. Second
largest atoll in the world (78 km long and 24 km wide, smaller only than Kwajalein in the
Marshall Islands) this atoll is. The land mass of the Tuamotus is insignificant compared
with what exists below the surface of the water. The composition of Rangiroa provides this
unique feature: the reef's narrow passes funnel incoming tides to produce rapid localised
currents.
Tuamotu's natives, the "Paumotu,"
are these in Polynesia who keep the most sea oriented traditional way of life. They live
in the lagoon, they live with the lagoon, from fishing, from the black pearl. 3000 are
living in Rangiroa, 90% of them in the two villages of Tiputa and Avatoru. Outside of the
two villages, located near the passes, Robinson Crusoe could have lived on these hundreds
of tiny islands, called "motu," which form this huge coral belt. At the far end
of the atoll, visitors may have the impression this is the place were world is beginning.
One word...immensity as description would be enough. Immensity of colours, of beauty, of
untouched nature variety, of clearness and calm.
